    Submission template: MPI organic regulations consultation 2026

    MPI is consulting on the exemption threshold, infringement fees, technical amendments and a national organic mark. This template puts all 17 questions in one document with the submitter details MPI asks for, so you can answer the ones that matter to you and send it before 11:59pm on 22 September 2026.

    What the template covers

    Part 1: Exemption threshold (questions 1 to 6)

    • Questions 1 to 3. Rate each option from 1 to 5: keep $10,000; raise to $30,000; raise to $12,700.
    • Question 4. Your preferred option, or another amount.
    • Question 5. Your reasoning: benefits, risks, practical impacts. If you trade between $10,000 and $30,000, your compliance cost against your margin is data MPI does not otherwise have.
    • Question 6. Your alternative amount, if any.

    Part 2: Infringement offences (questions 7 to 9)

    • Question 7. Are infringement notices an appropriate response to minor non-compliance?
    • Question 8. Are the categories and fees in Appendix 1 fair and proportionate?
    • Question 9. Is the escalation mechanism for repeat offences appropriate?

    Part 3: Minor and technical amendments (questions 10 to 12)

    • Question 10. Do you support the amendments in Appendix 2?
    • Question 11. Comments on specific changes (regulations 13(3), 14, 41(4), 45, 38(3), 98, 19, 83(5)).
    • Question 12. Amendments to remove, amend or add, by change number.

    Part 4: National organic mark (questions 13 to 17)

    • Question 13. Should New Zealand have a national organic mark?
    • Question 14. One mark for domestic and export use, or separate marks?
    • Question 15. Should a domestic mark be regulated, or should the sector rely on verifiers' marks?
    • Question 16. What should it look like, and could the export mark be the domestic mark with an added element?
    • Question 17. Images or sketches (optional).
