Frequently Asked Questions
ANZOC is an organic compliance automation platform that helps New Zealand food manufacturers, distributors, importers, retailers, and certification bodies verify supplier certificates, assess recipe compliance, and prepare for OPPA 2023 requirements. Below are answers to common questions.
General Questions
What is ANZOC?
ANZOC is organic compliance automation for ANZ Pacific food manufacturers, distributors, importers, retailers, and certification bodies. It automatically verifies supplier certificates against BioGro, ACO, and AsureQuality databases, calculates organic percentages using official standard formulas, and ensures OPPA 2023 compliance.
Important: ANZOC is a compliance management tool, not a certification body. All documentation must be verified by MPI-recognised certification bodies (such as AsureQuality, BioGro, or ACO) before making organic claims.
Who is ANZOC for?
ANZOC is designed for:
- Food manufacturers producing organic products
- Distributors handling organic products
- Retailers selling organic products
- Importers bringing organic products into NZ
- Certification bodies processing operator applications
- Anyone needing to verify organic certificates
If you verify supplier certificates, calculate organic percentages, or manage OPPA 2023 compliance, ANZOC saves you time.
How much time does ANZOC save?
Certificate verification is free and instant with ANZOC's database. For recipe assessment (paid feature), manual tasks are time-consuming:
Manual Process:
- Organic % calculation: 30-45 min/product
- Recipe compliance check: 1-2 hours/product
- Label claim validation: 30-45 minutes
- Quarterly reports: 4-6 hours
With ANZOC:
- Organic % calculation: 3-5 minutes
- Recipe compliance check: 5-10 minutes
- Label claim validation: 2-3 minutes
- Quarterly reports: 20-30 minutes
Conservative estimate: ANZOC saves 2-3 hours per product for manufacturers needing full compliance documentation.
Technical Questions
How does ANZOC verify supplier certificates?
ANZOC connects directly to BioGro and ACO certification databases, and includes AsureQuality data updated monthly from official records. When you enter a supplier's certificate number:
- ANZOC queries the relevant certification body database
- Verifies certificate is current (not expired)
- Checks scope covers the specific ingredients you're purchasing
- Flags any issues: invalid, expired, or scope mismatch
- Monitors expiry dates and alerts you 60 days before renewal
This is the same verification process that happens manually, automated.
What organic standards does ANZOC support?
Current support:
- NZ NOS (BioGro, AsureQuality)
- Australian Certified Organic (ACO)
- USDA NOP (manual certificate upload)
- EU Organic (manual certificate upload)
Coming soon:
- Canadian Organic Regime
- JAS (Japan Agricultural Standards)
How do you calculate organic percentages?
ANZOC uses the official formulas from each standard:
- NZ NOS formula: (Organic ingredient weight / Total weight excluding water and salt) × 100
- USDA NOP formula: (Organic ingredient weight / Total agricultural ingredient weight, excluding water and salt) × 100
- EU Organic formula: Different rules for processed vs agricultural products
The same recipe can generate different percentages for different standards. ANZOC calculates all simultaneously.
Can ANZOC integrate with our existing systems?
Yes, on Enterprise plans. ANZOC provides:
- API access for recipe import/export
- CSV bulk upload
- Integration with ERP systems (custom development)
- Single sign-on (SSO) for enterprise users

Compliance Questions
Does ANZOC comply with OPPA 2023 requirements?
Yes. ANZOC maintains all documentation required for OPPA 2023 operator approval:
- Supplier verification records
- Traceability documentation
- Organic management programme (OMP) records
- Quarterly compliance summaries
- Audit preparation reports
However, ANZOC does not certify products. All data generated by ANZOC must be verified by an MPI-recognised certification body before you can legally make organic claims. ANZOC prepares the documentation; certification bodies provide the official verification required under OPPA 2023.
What happens if a supplier's certificate expires?
ANZOC monitors certificate expiry dates and alerts you:
- 60 days before expiry: First alert
- 30 days before expiry: Second alert
- At expiry: Certificate marked invalid, products flagged as non-compliant
You can request renewed certificates from suppliers through ANZOC and upload them directly.
Can ANZOC help with label compliance?
Yes. After calculating your organic percentage, ANZOC tells you:
- What label claims you can legally make
- What certification logos you can display
- Required label information (operator number, certifier name)
- Claims you cannot make (and why)
This applies for NZ, Australian, USA, and EU markets.
Can ANZOC certify my products?
No. ANZOC is a compliance management tool, not a certification body. We cannot:
- Issue organic certificates
- Provide official operator approval
- Verify products as organic
- Replace certification bodies
What ANZOC does:
- Prepare accurate compliance documentation
- Calculate organic percentages correctly
- Track supplier certificates
- Generate audit-ready reports
Never make organic claims based solely on ANZOC data. Always get certification body verification first.
